The 1 Student : 1 Tree Campaign

The Treenitiative is launching its 1 Student : 1 Tree Campaign in India.
We at the Treenitiative believe that school not only presents a suitable environment to sensitise young people for the environment but also presents a perfect opportunity to propagate a cause such as planting new trees to reforest the land. Such an activity integrated into the programmed instruction is for the immediate benefit of the wider community and also helps to build a sense of responsibility and care in each individual and in an entire emerging generation.

In a relatively new economy like India the challenges to the environment are manifold: There exist various economical temptations to exploit natural resources for fast returns and the sudden availability of better incomes, the appearance of consumables and disposables and the related new occurrence of massive output of domestic and industrial waste call not only for structural and infrastructural solutions, but also for deepened understanding of correlations and for behavioral adaptation of the entire populace.

The Treenitiative equips such schools with seeds, sapplings and educational tools and guidance. The participating institutions are properly instructed and progress of each project is closely monitored as to assure a lasting impact on the environment and in the experience of each student.

As environtmental awareness and conservation does not start or end with planting of trees, other topics of conservation are brought up along with the practical work of nursing a tree. a freshly planted treeFor this purpose the Treenitiative has acquired permission to translate and reproduce the remarkable book SECRETS OF THE EARTH by Aika Tsubota, an educational comic that throws light on many topics of nature protection and explains their correlations in an excellent, easy to understand way.

The publisher and copyright administrator FOUNDATION FOR GLOBAL PEACE AND ENVIRONMENT, Tokyo/Japan, has granted the Treenitiative.org use of the book within India on a non commercial basis and in the understanding that translation, printing and distribution of the book are taken care of from part of the Treenitiative.org and its associates. The conduct of the 1 Student : 1 Tree Campaign and free distribution of the book for participating schools are therefore entirely funded from donations received by the Treenitiative and its associates.

Below we reproduce the book SECRETS OF THE EARTH by Aika Tsubotua for online viewing and personal evaluation. Please observe the copyright notice and contact information on page 2 of the book.
